Dr Barnabás Kovács is an organic wine producer (BioVitis), a consultant to farmers switching to sustainable methods and a senior lecturer at the Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences. His professional studies focused on researching the soil aspects of wine treatment and were inspired by his family, who established an organic winery in the 1980s. This inspired him to look for ways to reduce the ecological footprint of wine production.

Gergely Makai graduated from the Faculty of Horticulture of Szent István University in 2008. In 2007 he attended a part-time course at the University of Agriculture in Montpellier, while studying for a Master’s degree in viticulture and gained practical experience in a winery. After working in Villány and Australia, he became the Technical Director of Tokaj-Hétszőlő Bio Szőlőbirtok in 2010. He was appointed Managing Director in 2016. He is the chairman of the organic section of the Association of Hungarian Independent Wine Producers (Vindependent). He is a finalist for the “Farmer of the Year 2020” award, and was also listed as one of the 50 best winemakers in the Winemakers’ Winemaker election.
